What does "per stay" mean in medicare medical health plans?

Update:

My new medicare health care plan says my cost is $275 "per stay".  Not sure what that means.  What if I am in the hospital for 5 days. Does that mean my total bill will be  $275.  Other plans had $275 per day for days 1-5 which I thought would be more expensive??

Per stay means each time  you are ADMITTED to the hospital.

If you are admitted and stay for five days - that is ONE stay for a cost of $275.

If you are admitted again and stay for one day - that is ONE stay for a cost of $275.

This would happen for each separate admission into the hospital.

BTW - the $275 probably only covers the charges for the ROOM.  Any other care provided to you would very likely be billed separately - so any lab work or doctor's care or procedures done would still be billed and would not be included in that $275.  This might be why it is not a recommended plan.  There may be other plans that offer better coverage for ALL the care you would get during a hospital stay.

So - be sure to check what the plan says about what percentage of your actual care is covered.

As opposed to "per day."  Per stay means exactly what its name implies.  It is per stay at a hospital no matter the length.  The same price per stay would be better than per day.

It means $275 no matter if you stay 1 day or 37.
