Being a sports fan ?

I live in Oakland California and was a fan of the Oakland Raiders but ever since I found out that they were relocating to Las Vegas I started to get disinterested in the team. Would it be fair if I chose a new team to be a fan lately I have been liking the saints would it be ok if I switched teams ?

Well, that's up to you to decide that.

I was a Raiders fan starting in the 1970s. The day they beat the Vikings to win their first Super Bowl ever was one of the happiest days I had back then. I was pretty lucky as I saw the A's beat Los Angeles Dodgers and the Warriors beat the Washington Bullets for championships. I rooted for the 49ers and SF Giants at about the same time, even though they were really bad teams. When the Raiders moved to LA, I stopped caring about them. I became a full time 49er fan. I also like it because now I get more televised games after they left the Bay Area. In fact, I started rooting against them after they moved. I hope that they lose. LOL, I was not disappointed. They started losing in the 80s and 90s. When they announced they were moving back to Oakland, I heard Al Davis telling the media he was doing it because he thought the enthusiastic crowd in Oakland would give him at least a couple more wins per season. He never apologized for moving to LA and he is not moving back because he likes the city and the fans. That is similar to your ex-wife saying she is coming back because she misses the couch in the living room, not because she still loves you and not apologizing for leaving you in the first place. By that time, most Raiders fans of the past had also switched to being 49er fans. Attendance was bad in Raider games and they often did not sell out. Therefore a lot of people treated their return similar to the way I felt.

Needless to say, I was not impressed. I wasn't going to be a Raider fan again. I continue to root against them. Even when they lost the Super Bowl to Tampa Bay, it did not disappoint me or hurt at all. In contrast, when they lost the AFC Championship game to Pittsburgh in 1974, I was so depressed I could not watch sports news on TV for weeks. I have continued to root against the Raiders even though they came back. Not surprisingly, they want to move again after Al Davis passed away. I have rooted against them every single game this season. I felt happy when they lose. The Raiders mean nothing to me. They lost me forever when they moved to LA.

You can continue to root for the Raiders or you can root for another team, it's your choice to make and not ours.

Why are you asking anyone else? The decision is entirely up to you. Anything else is just inviting criticism from hostile people.

No one cares, root for whomever you want.

Yes, it's okay if you switch teams.

You should support the Oakland Roots.

As for the Raiders, as much as I hate them, it sucks to lose your team. I refuse to support the Chargers anymore, but I haven't really attached myself to another team. It's tough when there is nothing local to really get behind. I have to have a connection to the team to really care.
