What is the difference between a CT scan and an MRI? Thank you!?

    The detailing, MRI scans are more detailed.

    The time in the machine, MRI scans take longer.

    The cost, MRI scans are costlier.

    Apart from that and the no metals rule near the MRI machines they're a similar experience.

    CT (computed tomography) uses a beam of x-rays rotated around the body to produce a 'slice' image of the body's internals.  It mostly images *density*.  X-rays are a form of ionizing radiation, which can directly damage cells.

    MRI uses a strong magnetic field and gradient fields, along with radio waves to create a 3D image of the body.  MRI primarily images *chemistry*.  Radio waves (RF) is a form of non-ionizing radiation, and is intrinsically less dangerous than x-rays.  Even so, an excess of RF energy can cause localized heating and that heating can damage cells.
