Life isn't fair?

I never hear the phrase "Tennis isn't fair",, and I suspect that I don't hear it because tennis has rules. So if life isn't fair, why does it have rules?

It doesn't have rules. There are no rules in nature. You can't change the fact that America for example has more Tornados than any other nation, or that Japan has more earthquakes. Some people are born to bad parents, in poor households, and have struggles in life. It's chance, there is no rule saying this is how it must be, it's just random chance. Some people are born in good households, go to good schools and do well in life. If you are born in a poor African nation, you will probably do less good in life. You could be born in rich neighborhood but have brain injury, again, pure chance. There is nothing fair about life, and you shouldn't expect there to be either. You should just try to do the best you can with the cards you are given.

Some dogs have floppy ears. My dog has floppy ears. THEREFORE my dog is some dog. See the problem with your syllogism?

If it didn't have rules then it would be unfair. Ever seen two kids go head to head in an unsupervised sport?

    You're right. Life is unfair.

That's true. It's not. But it can be.
