is light an invisible substance with no volume or mass?

    light is obviously visible.

    Yes, except for the small part of the electromagnetic spectrum that is visible to human beings. Human beings are blind to most of the electromagnetic spectrum, like being able to hear only the octave of middle C on a a standard piano keyboard. 

    I am going to ignore the issue of whether photons have rest mass or not. Other people have a lot more knowledge on that topic than I have.
