Since you would be suing a corporation, the maximum you could sue for would be $5,000. Go to the courthouse and pick up a packet, which will include instructions. Everything you need (forms, info) will be in that packet.

If you beliee they intentionally misled investors, you can file a fraud complaint with the SEC. You may be able to file a similar complaint with the California Attorney General.

Frankly, your best bet would be to sue for $10,000 in small claims and eat the excess $6,000.
Filing in a higher civil court costs more money, and in such a court, in trial, the other side WILL have a lawyer, which greatly lowers your chance of winning.
