Most commercially made ice cream is full of sugar and fat. Since it's often eaten as a dessert, ice cream can add a lot of extra calories to your meal. If you enjoy ice cream, it's probably best as an occasional treat. To choose a healthier ice cream, look for one with less than 15 grams of sugar per serving.

If you can settle for a ONE HALF CUP serving, it won't make you fat. That's four bites. Good luck with that.

Neither! If you eat more calories than you burn, you gain weight, if you burn more than you eat, you lose weight. My wife lost 100 pounds in a year and ate ice cream at least once a week. About once a month she would go to the Dairy queen and have a banana split & french fries for dinner.
It is all about eating fewer calories that you burn for weight loss.
