I know EXACTLY what movie you're talking about. The kid's mom was kind of a basket case. The very last scene has him returning to his trailer and pans up from the trailer park. It's on the tip of my tongue. I'm thinking "star" was in the name of it...

...yeesh, I can't even believe I remember that much about a movie I saw almost 40 years ago, but we did have it on VHS, which means it must've been rated PG, so I think I saw it a few times because there weren't that many cool movies rated PG and PG was all my parents would let in the house.
