How come not all businesses are closed on Sundays or the very least open past 12pm on Sundays.?

Back in the early days of the 20th century and perhaps even earlier that all businesses were always closed on Sundays or the very least opened late on a Sunday past noon, how come it isn't like that anymore? Just curioud

Because capitalism has run amok. Back in the day, every business in town closed down for religious holidays. Good Friday, Christmas Eve, and even small ones like Ascension Thursday. Now everybody is expected to work 18 hours a day 365 days a year.

I think that the growth in population over time made cities get bigger and so they needed to have a larger tax base to provide them services. Part of the solution was to allow stores to open on Sunday in order for the city to get sales tax.
