I need help with a problem with the IRS and a previous employer. ?
So basically the problem I'm having is before the virus hit, I called the IRS they informed me that my taxes were prefect but they couldn't verify my income from my one W2 I entered because my previous employer didn't transmit the info. I've spoke to my previous employer and to their pay roll department that they contact and neither help at all. In fact the pay roll department, basically told me to get lost. I filed clear back on the 3rd of February and I'm still waiting, is there anything I can do to expedite the process, the taxpayer advocate service is really busy, I have tried contacting them. Also does my previous employer or their payroll department have any legal obligation to send this info, or can they get in trouble for taking so long to do it. I left this job because they didn't pay me for 3 weeks stright, so this isn't the first time I've had a problem with them.

Eventually, either the IRS will allow the w-2 or they will ask you to produce further proof. Put your paystubs and bank statements were you deposited the checks in a safe place.

They were required to file W2s with the social security administration (not the IRS) no later than Jan 31 if electronically filed and Feb 29 if paper filed. The IRS usually does not get the information from SSA until mid-summer. Have you submitted a paper copy of your W2 along with the letter you got from the IRS? That's usually all that is required to clear up the matter.

Yes the employer has a legal requirement to submit the info to the IRS. Normally they could get in trouble for missing deadlines.Right now, maybe not.

Your employers all have an obligation to file the original copy of your W-2 with Social Security so that your earnings record can be credited. Social Security passes the information to IRS.

No, you cannot do anything to expedite the process. To expedite tthe process, you need to do nothing. The employer is obligated to send the info to the IRS, but you can't make them. You need to wait for the IRS to deal with it.

Request a copy of the last paycheck of the year, you should be able to pull everything you need from that. If they do not comply file a complaint with the labor board
