(3.17 g KCl) / (50.1 g + 3.17 g) = 0.059508 = 5.95% KCl by mass
(21.9 g KNO3) / (778 g + 21.9 g) = 0.027378 = 2.74% KNO3 by mass

Take the example of 25 g of something dissolved in 100 g of something else. Total mass is 125 g. Mass % of the first material = 25 g / 125 g * 100. Mass % of the second material = 100 g / 125 g * 100.
