The Catholic Church is entirely responsible for the composition of the Bible, which books are included, as well as the breakup of the chapters and verses. Protestants have removed some books of the Bible because some of the verses were inconsistent with their theology. Martin Luther was a prime offender in this regard, removing Tobit, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Wisdom, Sirach and Baruch. He also made an effort to remove James and Revelations, but this was rejected by his followers and those two books were kept. Catholics are often accused of "adding" the books, but despite this common belief, it is false. Older, pre-Protestant, Catholic translations of the Bible include them.

I am humbled to be a member of the Catholic Church because it's Sacraments, dogmas, doctrines and magisterium are truth. I am deeply saddened by the scandals that have been perpetrated by a few bad apples that comprise some of its human hierarchy; but I will always trust in Jesus' words, "...the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (Matt. 16:18)

The Holy Catholic Church is the only Church that Jesus Christ ever personally founded, authorized, empowered and perpetually guaranteed, for the purpose of our salvation. He never authorized any other church, group, or persons, for any reason. Jesus remains the head of the Holy Catholic Church, to this day.

Sadly, Catholicism is synonymous with pride and arrogance.

It's like asking "Is the Pope Catholic?"

Absolutely. Because it is the one source of God's truth that He provided for humans. He promised its first bishops "The Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth", and "Whatsoever you bind upon Earth is bound in Heaven", and "He who hears you hears Me". If you want to know what Christianity would be like without His one Church, just look at the doctrinal chaos of Protestantism - thousands of manmade churches, each claiming to be teaching from a book compiled by the Catholic Church, yet the teachings of each denomination contradicting the teachings of the others - exactly the opposite of the will of Jesus Christ concerning His followers, which was and still is "That they all may be ONE, even as I and My heavenly father are ONE.

Lemme play Angel's Advocate in a special case. Suppose that I:

1) Love the pomp and pageantry of church ritual too much to give it up

2) Am too low income for my individual contribution to make a noticeable dent in their overall (or even local) revenue

3) Have no children of my own to expose to risk of molestation by the clergy

4) Have no sympathy for anyone else's kids

Then, being Catholic would be totally cool!

Most sex abuse happens in homes. Are you proud of your home?

My question is as fair as yours.

As of August, 2018 the Catholic church has paid out nearly FOUR BILLION DOLLARS in settlements to sexual abuse victims. I am very proud of that.
