There were a lot of African slaves there to work on sugar plantations. There are also a lot of Spanish people, so as people have mixed over generations, skin colour goes from black to shades to brown to shades of white. The music is a blend of African and Spanish too, which makes it lively and beautiful.

I don't think there are any indigenous people that are native to Cuba. They're a mix of nationalities from people that came there because of slave trade or rum runners.

I read or heard somewhere not long ago that many more slaves were brought from Africa to Cuba than were brought to the US. That would explain it.
I think it was on a program about Carly Simon's ancestry. She had a Cuban grandmother who was black or part black.

Cuba, like America, may have stolen and imprisoned Africans and sold them into slavery, leaving a good percentage of the population of African descent.

Yes. Read up about the slave trade. Slaves were brought to Caribbean islands, South and Central America from Africa- sometimes to grow sugarcane that was turned in the rum that British sailors drank on their voyages. That's why all the islands have people who are of mixed heritage.

To my knowledge Yes, There is a mixer between the two and it would be called Afro-Cuban.

Proving once again how stupid it is to base your opinions of people on the color of their skin.
