Can someone explain to me how "defund" can mean anything OTHER than "abolish"?!?!?!?
The word "defund" means to "stop paying for". If you stop paying for the police ... there WON'T BE ANY POLICE!!!!
How can anyone say that "defund" means to "retrain"? Retraining costs MORE money, not LESS!!! "Defunding" is the OPPOSITE of providing more training. Creating some NEW KIND of police force will ALSO cost MORE money, not less. That, again, is the OPPOSITE of "defund".
"Fund" and "Defund" are words that deal with FINANCE. They are not words that have anything to do with reforming or rethinking. They have to do with providing the money necessary to do the job. To "fund" means to provide the money. To "defund" means to NOT provide the money.
If you really mean something other than, "Stop paying for the police," then WHY THE CRAP are you using the word "Defund".

Of course. You take some of the money that's going to the police and direct it to other community resources to handle the jobs police shouldn't be handling in the first place. Happy now?

i agree that they need money for training, but whether the money is spent on training or not is up to the chief of the department, and not all chiefs are willing to change. thats probably a partial reason for a significant lack of diversity in police forces, let alone the fact that there arent even many people who want to be police in the first place, let alone minorities or women

In this case, 'defund' means REDUCE their budget. And, take that money that was reduced and move it into actual services for people where the workers doing those jobs DON'T murder their clients.
Nurses often have to deal with people who resist their efforts and are up on drugs, yet nurses rarely murder anyone in those situations.
Replace cops with nurses, who are people who care for people, not assh*les who think they're at war with the public.

Trump defunded the government by giving billionaires tax cuts. But the government is still there.
