Is "yoga" fraud?

Is there a scientific evidence that "yoga" is beneficial to health? Is it okay to bend our spinal cords backwards? How is that healthy in anyway despite damaging to the bones of it??

Yoga was at first mentioned in Bhagavad Gita written centuries B. C. It was already highly developed at that time. There was surely no scientific background for it, which was proved also by the philosophy of buddhism by refusing the nonsensical asceticism of yogins (for example by refusing their starvation).
