My dad is on a ventilator and is not aware of his surroundings. We are not sure if he is brain dead.?
How can we find out if he is brain dead. Hopefully he is not.

They can do an EEG and see if there is any brain activity. They can also put him on 100% oxygen and slow down the ventilator so the CO2 builds up. If he has any activity in the hindbrain he will start trying to breath. If not, then that is another indication he is brain dead.

Have the doctors and nurses take him off the morphine and stay with him. He’s probably just doped up on sedatives.
