I believe that they help but are more to protect others in case you have the virus.

I'm a healthcare professional and masks do help protect you from COVID-19.

Are they perfect? No. But the do limit your exposure by quite a bit. How much depends on the quality of the mask used. N95 masks provide the best measure of protection.

Besides masking, frequent hand-washing and social distancing should also be used.

They don't help you, they slightly help others if you were to sneeze.

The protection they offer is minimal.

Cloth masks don't fit right across the face and leaves a lot of space for the virus to pass through.

In addition, people can not keep from messing with their masks or touching their faces. I witness this daily watching people who come into my work.

I believe they protect you better than not wearing one.

Some do but most of the masks that people are wearing are really only good if they are sick so they don't spray germs everywhere when coughing and sneezing - not that people should be out in public at all if they are sick.

They do not protect you from catching the bug. It only helps avoid passing it to other people around you in case you have it being unaware. But wearing a mask doesnt save you from catching toxins in the air

no. CDC and OSHA indicate they will not stop a virus.  All political.
