How to fix odor in apartment?

Apartments are side by side townhomes. Ours constantly stinks no matter what. I have no idea if it’s something with the AC Filter or what but it’s awful. It also smells like weed sometimes but we do not smoke that. I’ve woken up sometimes to the smell of weed and some other nasty smell I can’t describe in the middle of the night a couple of times before. I don’t understand! We constantly clean, we use pinesol and mean clean products, candles, we even tried putting coffee in bowls in different rooms and air fresheners, wax melters, candles, all it does is hide the smell for a minute. I even clean the walls lol. We cook with the windows open, clean immediately after. Always taking the trash out. I have no clue what is causing this smell. It’s not a dead animal smell— its hard to describe the smell. It’s just a dirty stinky smell.

I think youre getting a cold air DRAW. Having lived in a high rise apartment building and suffering the same kind of thing. When the sun went down, the temperature dropped and smells came in with the air shifting. It was worse in winter because couldnt open windows and compensate for air pushing BACK. its hard to explain.  The easiest thing I can tell you to do is INSPECT YOUR HOME FOR HEAT LOSS. YOu know, they go around with a BBQ  lighter and try to find drafts. The seal around vents, they find vents that werent closed off.  Since its a row house I KNOW you must share a firewall in the attic. What else might the building have shared in the past? A chimney? A bathroom vent? A heating system?

Maybe you need a shower and do the pits.?  You need other people to smell it and they can give you their description  because smell does not transmit over the internet.

You could have a dead mouse or rat in walls or worse mold growing. Check for moisture in plumbing areas.

I'd flush all drains too with a bleach solution.

Yes front loader washer stink around seal.

Id buy a better HEPA filter for air filter

Id watch traffic in reference to when you smell scent...like i had a neighbor and everytime she came home the smoking lamp was lit....huge vape smoke 420 off the balcony. She had a medical card and nothing the manager could do...so do you smell more in evening, later at night...??

Id be looking into moving. My friend lived in a town house and had to move when 4 smokers moved in above and below and beside them...after she had a baby. The smoke just drifted through the air vents.
