How far to park away from the curb? ?

I know the California handbook says within 18 inches but I also know you can’t get too close without getting marked and 18 inches is a little far from the curb so what’s a good distance to park away from the curb without getting marked. Please don’t reply with smart remarks this is a genuine question.

I have never got marked for being too close..  Marking(I am assuming you mean on the tires with chalk) is used to time your parking.  You can't park there all day. If the mark does not move after say 2 hours then you get a ticket for illegal parking. Store owners cannot park their car in front of their business as that robs others of  a parking space.

    Otherwise Explain "marked"

Without getting "marked"... What the f u c k do you mean?????????????

Oh, I get it... you mean marked down on your driving test.

If you are parking on a tiny narrow street, you attempt to park as close to the curb as you can get so that your side view mirror doesn't get torn off.

if you are parking for a parking test, you need to be less than 18" from the curb.

CLEARLY, you are not ready to drive if you can't understand that you must NOT touch the curb at any point when you are parking AND you have to be less than 18" = anything between that is FINE.

I tend to agree with Glenda -- about 6"-12" inches away. Make sure that before you park, you are not parking next to a fire hydrant, entrances, etc. Also, when I practice and studied for my test, I used Smart Drive Test videos on YouTube. Their videos are extremely helpful and helped me pass my road test. Good luck with your driving!

  • Generally between 6" - 12" depending on how much attention I lend to the task.

Since you are parking between cones for the test, it doesn't matter

18 inches would be good for some people. They need a taxi to get to the kerb.

18 in does look a bit too far when you do it, maybe 6 in would be a good aim.

As close as you can get without chewing up your rims on the curb jojo.

If you are competent you park one to three inches from the curb.

I park same as in this video, starting at 38 seconds... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNmx4N6-8zA
