Terry cloth, sponge or microfiber towel to wash car?

Google doesn't help at all. One article says to use it then another warns against it. I don't want to cause micro scratches!!

I use a car wash mit, use micro fiber to remove wax, if waxing, use application sponge from the car wax kit (Maguires Ultimate is a good choice) for applying wax.

I use old wash cloths to was my vehicles.  Old is better because lint gets washed out of them in time.
