Do dogs catch a cold?

Hi.

Confused here, I believe dogs don’t catch colds.

But, I have heard dogs sneeze.

So, do dogs catch colds or no?

Ric

Dogs can develop a respiratory infection but as in the human cold virus - no.   Dogs can catch cold (as opposed to A cold), as in get chilled however.   Sneezing is usually done to get rid of something that tickles in their noses.   Dust - seed - some irritating chemical smell, and so on.

    Googles first answer is......

(c/p) Can dogs get colds? No, dogs don't get colds in the same way that humans do and they cannot catch the cold virus that causes symptoms in humans. However, dogs can get infections that create symptoms like a cold, such as sneezing and congestion.

Dogs cannot catch the SAME cold virus that affects humans but yes, they can get something with similar symptoms called Kennel Cough.  Unlike the human "common cold" there is a vaccine to help prevent it.  Dogs can also get a type of canine flu and it can spread from dog to dog VERY quickly.  As to sneezing yes, dogs can and do sneeze, due to any number of nasal irritations - just like people.  Dogs can also do a REVERSE sneeze.  (Google it, for video examples.)

No, dogs don’t get colds in the same way that humans do and they can't catch the cold virus that causes symptoms in humans. However, dogs can get infections that create symptoms like a cold, such as sneezing and congestion. You can't catch it from them.

    yes, dogs can:

Common cold symptoms for dogs include:    •      Sneezing    •      Coughing    •      Runny or congested nose    •      Watery eyes

If your dog is experiencing these symptoms, your safest option is to call your veterinarian for advice. If your dog is also experiencing a change in appetite, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or any other changes in normal behavior, your dog could be suffering from a more serious disease that requires veterinary treatment.

No – dogs cannot catch cold from humans, and neither can humans catch a cold from a dog. The viruses that affect dogs and humans are different, thus they won't survive in different organisms.
