Why do liberals say it’s racist to call the coronavirus the Chinese virus?
That is what it is. It was originated and most likely created in China. If a virus came from America and spread throughout the world, people in other countries would call it the America virus. What’s so bad about calling the virus what it is?
@annon, I agree actually. I’d be fine with changing those names.

when you have people in the street yelling derogatory terms to Asians in the United States related to the virus, that is when it becomes racist and sometimes hostile towards them. that is the fear and problem with calling it "Chinese Virus".

First of all, its source has been ASSUMED to be China. No actual fact has been established that THAT is indeed the case. Second: attaching a nationally-based origin to any disease or infection has historically resulted in unwarranted discrimination against and harassment of that nation and its people. Currently, the US’s relationship with China is going downhill and Impeached Trump’s modus operandi is ALWAYS to get the best insults to the media FIRST before his opponent can; this is what bullies do. As well as deflect responsibility but I digress...
As a more personal example: let’s say your REAL name is Weston. At your high school an outbreak of genital warts occurs, SOMEONE floats the idea that they came from YOU, and then all of a sudden people are talking about “Weston’s Warts.” Even if the rumor WAS true, how would you feel about YOUR name being attached to and identifying YOU as the source of an STD outbreak in your high school community? Would you want your teachers and the principal using the phrase “Weston’s Warts?” It IS rather catchy, doncha think? COVID-19 HAS a name: it’s COVID-19, it has no party affiliation, and it doesn’t care if you’re a Democrap or Repugnican. Let’s not politicize it and make it any worse than it has to be, okay? Thanks.

It's harder to scare children with the name Wuhan flu than what it is to call it COVID-19.

It's The Donald John Trump Memorial Covfefe Virus, named in honor of the 165K people Fearless Leader killed with it.

Spanish Flu came from the United States.
Part of the reason you don't call an illness by its origin is because you might have the wrong origin, then what? You can't change the name then.
Finally, it already has a name. Why is it so important that people who hate science anyways rename it?

WHO named it Co-Vid19 to keep the virus from stigmatizing any place or race.
You might be using it as just a place but it's stigmatizing people associated with that place. Other people who aren't you hate this virus and are looking to someone to blame. China is an easy target for people who are emotional. I'm not talking about the Chinese government. I'm talking about anybody who looks Asian.
When the SARs epidemic hit the US during Bush's presidency my friends who are Asian in HS were spit on and harassed because of SARs.
For CoVid19, Asian hate crime has been on the rise. There are lots of news articles where the person performing the hate crime was screaming. "this is all your fault" in respect to the virus and to a random Asian person. I know of this grandma in a neighborhood next to Chinatown was stalked and had acid poured on her in respect to the virus. She wound up on the news. She lives in my nephew's neighborhood. We're Americans but come from Asian descent.

You do have the freedom to say whatever you want. We have freedom of speech as Americans. It's protected and celebrated but people neglect to acknowledge the power that comes with freedom. Any power can be abused. Freedom of speech doesn't absolve us from responsibility. People overlook that our actions have consequences in terms of freedom of speech.
I hate overly sensitive pc culture too. I don't want people to feel like they can't talk or crack a joke. But I don't think it's good for us to thoughtlessly say anything. If we say something we need to be prepared for the consequences that come with it. I'm not talking about someone being angry with you. I'm talking about if your words can inspire someone else to do violence or hurt someone. For example, you can go on a rant about how Santa Claus isn't real to a 5 yr old but the consequence could be that if the child loves Santa, you're going to break his or her little heart. Are you going to get upset at the kid for crying and tell them you did nothing wrong because you used and have freedom of speech and say it's not true how that kid is feeling? People get so upset when people ask for the kindness to reconsider the words they choose. They don't realize the power of what they're doing. What is wrong with asking someone not to refer to this as the China Virus or Kung Flu? It's such a simple request and it costs you nothing to oblige.
If you want to call it the China Flu. I can't do anything but ask kindly for you not to. I'm really requesting that you think about the power you have with freedom of speech to be mindful and responsible with the words you choose. I don't want to claim racism. Alot of people just get turned off the minute it's talked about. There's alot of people who think racism doesn't exist in 2020. This is serious, there are people who want to murder people because of stigma.
I'm scared for my nephews and my family. There are some really crazy people out there. There was a 2 yr old stabbed in a Costco because a teenager wanted to kill an entire Asian family. Even if you don't agree with me. Please be kind and exercise kindness to those you don't agree with or understand.

You may believe what your saying is harmless and people hate the idea of pc culture. I don't actually believe I have a reason to thin you are racist but I have reason to believe that you're not seeing the gravity of what you say. Please consider that your words hold more weight than you realize. People who look Asian have been blamed and attacked in this country. When you call it the China Flu. There are crazy people who will understand it in a different way than you. What you're saying may not affect you but it is affecting everyone else around you.

You know how they are. They constantly bring up race, but when you attribute race to something, you're the racist. Liberals don't call things what they are because they live in La La Land. The Chinese are responsible for the virus getting out of that lab.
