How to stop tennis elbow from chinups?

I got a pullup bar to workout my weak lats. At the start, last week I couldn't do one. So I would jump and try to slow my descent as much as possible. And, it kinda worked. Before, I could barely even move an inch without jumping, but now I can pull myself over the bar much much easier. Issue being, my elbow hurts.. my tendon in my elbow hurts whenever I try to do them now. But I need to rest to fix my elbow losing all my progress, then I'll just injure it again trying to get back to where I am now. I can't do correct form yet, so how am I supposed to do them without injuring my elbow again?

Most of what you'll read will say rest (ice, ibuprofen, etc) and, but as you mentioned you will lose some of your ability if you take too much time off. HOWEVER, you mentioned your goal being to work your lats, so that means you don't HAVE to do pull-ups/chin-ups. The source article discusses other exercises you can do, to work the same muscles.

Try some elastic bands to assist you.
