Is 900 dollars a month in electricity normal for a 2 bedroom 1300 square foot apartment ?

My house is 990 square feet and I have never paid more than $150.00 running the air conditioning all day, and that is through southern California Edison at 23 cents a kWh, which is double the US national average.
I would be very, very concerned if I hit $300, let alone three times that.

That would depend on where you are, what in the apartment uses power (Such as heat, AC, water heating, etc.), how the place is insulated, and what the rates for power are in the unstated place which this hovel is to be found.

Absolutely NO. That's far too high. I have a 1300 square foot HOUSE and only pay less than $100 per month. There is something very wrong. Call your utility company and ask them to check it out. Perhaps there is a past due bill attached to yours for some reason--or someone is using your electric--or the meters are bad. They will need to audit this and explain it to you.

Not where I come from, but it has occurred in my lifetime. When it did we asked for the power company to come investigate why and It was discovered my neighbor tapped into my power without me knowing. It can also occur by a malfunction of your air conditioner. When that does occur you can ask your landlord to fix it, but you remain on the hook for the power charges.

Holy cow...where do you live? Beverly Hills? In the summer my electric is 70 bucks for 2000 sq. feet. In the dead of winter it's 250. 900 sounds ridiculous.
