Should police in America do what British police do, and only certain highly trained cops carry guns. And the majority are unarmed ?

A minimally armed police force works in the UK because it's a minimally armed society. The US is entirely different.

    No..............................

That probably wouldn’t work in the US. A better idea would be to hire non psychotic police who use their brains to think a bit first and don’t have egos the size of Everest.

All of the current ruckus is apparently about cops NOT using guns and 'accidentally' killing drunk and high people who would probably have survived a well placed bullet instead of resisting arrest and dying in the process.

In fact, anger over the use of non-lethal or so-called 'less lethal' weapons, (let alone guns), is what has led to the use of more aggressive physical restraint techniques. They aren't necessary when a person is 'tazed,' incapacitated by rubber bullets or bean bags, or otherwise unable to continue resisting.

If anything, I would say we need to do the opposite of what British police do until people learn to respect law enforcement, even just out of instinctive fear. That includes being tougher on public drunkenness and drug abuse, since the 'mentally altered' tend to have less fear and inhibition, leading to acts of stupidity and needless deaths.

In Britain, people run around stabbing each other and have absolutely no fear of law enforcement because they know that they are unarmed and have no 'backup' unless someone brandishes a gun, (which activates their equivalent of 'SWAT').

Those being shot to death in the U.S. nearly always die while resisting arrest and threatening police while high or drunk.

Why?  Because some nominal amount of police shoots are bad?  America is not Britain and just because it works there doesn't mean it will work here.  The vast majority of law-abiding, hard working Americans have no issue with law enforcement officers being armed.

that would ONLY work IF the criminals don't have any guns, like they do in the U.S.
