If I become an Intern for a Modeling company, could I sign a model?

Hello everyone,

I am looking at internships for modeling companies in NYC that are well-known globally. I was wondering if I were to get an internship, would I be allowed to also sign models to contracts? I have a beautiful friend with a great heart who wants to be a model, would I be able to get her a modeling deal during my internship?

No.  You wouldn't have any say or authority in who gets signed.

If the only reason you are taking the internship is with the goal of signing your friend, forget about it.  Not only will you not have any say in choosing which models get seen or chosen, but as an intern will be subjected to basic gopher duties.  Even if you do well on your internship, you will be a long way from becoming an actual modeling scout or agent. It takes years to reach that status and some of this requires taking classes that give you exposure to the industry.  Meanwhile, if your friend is truly model material, the agency will pick up on that.  You would be more help to her by assisting her with a professional portfolio and in submitting photos to agencies.

You could recommend her to management.  But will you have the authority personally to sign her to a contract - of course not.
