My MacBook Air will not open message app?

The other day I received an extremely long message. When I tried opening the messages app it continued to load but sent my fan into overdrive. I have since continued to try opening it but it will not even open it anymore and just makes my fan go crazy, I have to force close it and then send a report out. Any clue on how to fix this issue?

    Try clearing the data and cache on the messaging app and see if helps any
