Does high school in America have these group of people? ?

I am sure high schools across the world have different groups or cliques.   

But nothing is like it is in TV shows and movies. 

And groups don’t stick just with each other. When my daughter was in HS she was very academic. She hung out with friends from orchestra, tennis team, student counsel, dance, nerds, track team.    And there  wasn’t a bunch of mean girls going around school causing problems.

Jocks (not jockies, that is a brand of underwear) Can be smart, they can hang out with student who don’t play sports. 

It isn’t as cut and dry as it is in TV shows.

Sure.  Art imitates life.  In my era, our HS had the jocks, the cheerleaders, the nerds or eggheads, the sluts, the delinquents, the home makers (female) and the auto-shop boys.  I was a jock-nerd; I played varsity tennis and placed in the State physics exam.
