    Eliminate technology which includes breakthroughs in medicine and it's possible mankind would be extinct. Your problem is an inability to see in perspective.

    Our species would still be squatting in the forests in fear of birds of prey snatching us if technology wasn't useful to us. 

    Homosapien as a species owes its success thanks to our ability to make and better our technology.
