How would you structure your family history if you write it in a book?
Looking for advice from people who have written their own family history. Do you start with yourself and go backwards or the other way?
Have you just written one side of your family tree into a book and how did you go about it?
I am wanting to write all my sides into a book (paternal grandfather + paternal grandfather; maternal grandfather + maternal grandmother) and just head backwards or am I better off starting from the top of the list??
Would love your thoughts!

I did my stepfather's for him as I did the majority of the research. I mainly concentrated on the direct line. For his Father's side of the family I watermarked a picture of his Father on the page (used word for windows). Then I started with the furthest back I found. Listed the Great x whichever grandparents with birth, marriage and death dates and underneath, their children with birth dates. Either on the same page (if room) or another page, I put in more details about the children (BMD and children). I put the direct descendant in bold. Then on a new page, I started with the child of the first page who was directly descended again and continued down the line. I did the same with the mother's side. I was lucky enough to find baptism and burial records for most of them, so I did a page with the churches (found pictures of them) and the names and dates of those who were christened, married or buried in them. I also used the census or any other information to do a job page as most of them worked in the same line, plus a little detail on the company they all worked for. It took time to sort out the information, but was comparatively easy as both sides of his family lived in another country and had slightly odd names and a lot of the records were held in the British library. I am currently working on my mother's side, which is much harder, but will be very satisfying once done.

Researching your ancestry always starts from yourself , proving each ancestor via the records they generated during their lifetime, so writing it is book form is the same and scanning in proof of ancestry each generation from the records you have researched ...that way it is not just a collection of names, places, dates it is a story along with proof
