I need a driver"s license and a social security card as do most people to function. I worked to get them.?

Why is the thought of a voter I.D card so wrong?

For all the money that's been spent on lawsuits on both sides of the voter ID issue we could have mailed out a free voter ID to every eligible American. But the politicians won't do that because keeping the issue alive gives them something to talk about on the campaign trail. This is the same reason they won't deal with immigration and a number of other issues that are just too good as political footballs to resolve.

    so go apply for them

    Because

    1) Social Security cards are free in every state, so not being able to pay for one isn't a problem

    2) If you can't afford a license, then you also can't afford a car, so you don't a license

    3) No one is supposed to be prevented from voting because they don't have enough money

    4) The only voting prevented by voter ID laws is legal voting by U.S. citizens who can't get an voter ID, usually because they can't afford one, and in many cases, even though they already have an ID that can't be used as a voter ID in their state because it didn't cost enough money to qualify as a "voter" ID.  5) Contrary to popular belief, voter ID laws do not stop any voter fraud, and may actually make it easier.
