I think so.  I think that most of the familiar faces you see on the television and internet, forced down your throat, are on the same team.  I believe they are because they are all united by the belief that they were and are unique and special and the very bestest and most deserving.  That unites them, and maintaining that belief keeps them united.  Nobody that you or I know knows any of them personally no matter what bullshit story they make up.  They could all be European for all we know and the entire American Revolution story is just that - a story.  Any mental midget can convincingly fake an American accent in three months, and falsifying the paperwork... 'here's a million dollars, we're Americans now, say anything and you die' and that's how they handle that complete with American family heritage records and American schooling records.     

Well, it's the business of politics to cause outrage for politicians to hold onto power or gain power. In that sense yes. 

Politics is a scam on the American people to keep us divided so that politicians can gain more power. No politician ever cared for the American people.
