Is the word "Boomer" used as an abuse?

Many people use the word boomer for referring to "old & closed-minded persons".

Is this used in an abusive manner or is it just slang?

As with any other term drawn from social life, context is everything. "My father is a Boomer" isn't the same as trying to negate someone's opinion with "Okay, Boomer". When I send an email to my aunt and write, "Hi, Karen" it doesn't have the same impact as using her name as a racial, gender and age pejorative.

It's mostly used in a derogatory manner however the spice of the statement can be diffused if a boomer does not mind being one.

I considered myself a babyboomer for decades with no shame in it.  If you just shorten it to 'boomer' I see no harm.

Some people can say it in a mean spirited manner, but that can be done with any word.

    It's meant to be insulting.
