Not allowing users to comment will not improve the community experience. If not allowed to interact, how does it keep the users engaged?

The following message is appearing below each article (on Yahoo site)

"Our goal is to create a safe and engaging place for users to connect over interests and passions. In order to improve our community experience, we are temporarily suspending article commenting."

Removal of comments was a management decision to eliminate the abuse frequently prevalent in them. I agree w/ the action. It was shocking how much abuse people were expected to endure. Too many people think the first amendment is absolute giving them a right to say anything w/o consequences. However, I would have agreed to an option to eliminate the box on an individual basis. That's what I would have done.

I’ve never seen any news item that was improved by the uninformed comments of idiots.

Similarly, the comments on Yahoo Answers had become a cess pit of name calling, slander and vile abuse. The only people who want comments restored are those who want to be abusive.

They are quite right - it made this too much of a chat forum.

Few comments add anything to the experience as they are full of trolls.
