Oatmeal tends to be a last ditch effort when feeding a dog grain, but it's not the worst thing. It should always be served COOKED and PLAIN made with water, not milk of any kind and never raw, ever. Many vets recommend brown rice first for a grain, as/if needed. Not all dogs can go the grain free route. Mine certainly can't. We tried for months and he ended up with horrible digestion issues and diarrhea. I know I'm more than likely going to get TD's for this answer, but I really don't care. Not all dogs can do meat 100% of their diet. All dogs are different when it comes to their nutritional needs. Many dogs do just fine on a meat-only diet. Many dogs have meat allergies like you wouldn't believe. The best thing to do is to speak with your vet about what's right for YOUR dog and your dog only.
