Not for some time for these reasons.
1) They're too expensive for what they are.
2) There are not enough charging points.
3) They have limited range and take too long to charge up at present.
4) Battery technology is not perfected and a car with a hydrogen fuel cell with water as a byproduct is a better option and we should go down that route

No they are a waste of money and if the government thinks it can get rid of petrol cars then they are in cuckoo land.
