math question?

Ryan is standing at the top of an observation tower. He points his flashlight toward the horizon then slowly lowers it until he sees a cat. The angle of depression from his flashlight to the cat is 60º. Ryan continues to lower the beam of the flashlight until he sees a dog at an angle of depression of 75º. What are all the side lengths of the triangle.

    Think we're missing some info. You need at least 2 numbers to solve a triangle.

    What is the other number? height of tower, distance of cat to tower, distance of dog to tower, distance of cat to dog, or ...?

    o is height of tower

    a is distance of cat to tower

    b is distance of dog to tower

    sin(60) = o/h

    h = o/sin(60)

    cos(60) = a/h

    h = a/cos(60)

    o/sin(60) = a/cos(60)

    a = o cot(60)

    same calculation different angle

    b = o cot(75)

    If we knew how tall the tower was we could solve a and b or vice-versa.
