Is it illegal to chew peppermint gum while driving a 1997 Toyota Camry?

According to an Oregon sheriff, this was punishable by a fine of $500. Is he right? Should I hire a lawyer?

    It's illegal during a leap year with a full moon on Memorial day.

    If they wrote you a ticket the statute will be listed on it. If you did not get a ticket you do not need a lawyer.
