Cheap and good is a beater old car and still running is good. So it is a gamble and you buy PRIVATE not from the lot as they throw on $1000 on the car they just paid $300 for on trade in. You are giving the dealership 1K because it is on the lot convenience and you can make payments. Privately, if you can't afford several hundred dollars, then you can't afford the insurance either. No Car For You!
I bought from a garage because the guy left it after it was assessed for $400.00 because the mechanic did not want it. Number 3 cylinder was dead. I bought the car and drove it home and fixed the engine for under $100 so it ran on 4 cylinders. It was a diesel(before dieselgate) It had 345,000 miles on the clock. It was a 1980 VW Rabbit. So I put 999.999.9+ miles on it before I sold it running for $1000 to some person after having it for 15 years & I never had to change shocks, struts, muffler. It did not come with a Turbo so no problems there. Nothing else wore out. Maybe the odd air cleaner because I would occasionally drive on dusty roads. Checked oil level every morning...and coolant level. Make sure those fluids are correct and all the V belts are good and rad hoses were not leaking (all eyeball check so 5 minutes tops and close hood, check tires to be sure none were flat by walking around car and eye them and you are ready to roll. Car gave me 75MPG on 13" tires. Tank could hold 10 gallons of fuel and nobody was going to steal diesel with a siphon hose.
I changed cars because I was getting tired of driving the same old car. I wanted a different "PITA" or a different color...or some other reason to switch. It wasn't due to mechanical issues.

I think it's a Toyota Passo X. The price is about 1.15 million yen. With a variety of body colors and custom styles, you can design your own unique Passo.
The interior is made of warm suede tricot material, and the smallest compact car has a nice and cozy space.

I bought TWO used Mercedes Benz cars on line for $3,000 each! They have been ULTRA reliable and VERY safe, After i TUNED Them they were BOTH getting 32 MPG all day long! Used BMW cars and USED AUDIs are ALSO terrific but only if you have a bit of mechanical ability! The FORD TAURUS USED is another excellent buy! The engines are made with HIGH SILICON content and will NOT wear out! See if you EVER see one burning oil ! Using the AC on a BENZ gets MORE MILES per GALLON. The fuel is run through an ICE COLD AC hose to chill the gas! VERY SMART! USED AUDI Quattros are nearly unstoppable in bad weather! Another one is a good used SUBARU with NIGHT VISION

Buy used Toyota or Honda; they both have high reliability and easy maintenance. But buy it from a reputable dealer, not from someone in a dark alley around the corner.
