If you want to chop down a tree you keep hitting it with an axe.  Eventually you cause enough damage that the tree falls.  If Donald wants to destroy democracy he just needs to keep making dents into it until the system itself collapses and he becomes the supreme ruler.

Note that Hitler was arrested after his first attempted coup.  Even though he lost in court he kept spouting his ideology gradually gaining crazy supporters.

He continued to use his speeches to infiltrate and eventually take over the mechanisms of government.  As you know he sacked many underlings always wanting them to be scared of HIM.  Basically the cult of the Fuhrer; the father,  the one person who could run Germany was born.  I don't know if you can see any parallels or not.
