why does most people don't seem have any emotional or personal connection to the 1800s 1700s or before?

Why are there so many websites, commercials and other things focusing on the nostalgia of the most recent decades (such as the 1950s and beyond) over ones that most have lived through in the past? Is it because these decades sucked or seemed bland compared to the last 70 (or so years)?I wasn't around then but am curious from those who were that are still alive (mainly before the 20th century).

Roughly 77% of the US population is 64 years old or younger. So the vast majority have little if any emotional or personal connection with events prior to the 1950s. Plus recorded commercials and other video material was very scarce before the 1950s. People today have enough trouble relating to the middle of the 20th century much less the 18th and 19th centuries.
