If a mom and dad throw their child a party to celebrate only milestone birthdays (six parties in total), does that make them bad parents?

1 — one-year anniversary of birth

5 — a whole hand

10 — double digit

13 — teenager

16 — sweet sixteen

18 — adult

In between, the parents celebrated the other birthdays by giving child gifts, taking him/her to restaurant, etc.  But no guests, balloons, or music.  Just a quiet get-together with immediate family.

Yes, children deserve parties every year.

No. You don't need a party every single year as a kid and you certainly don't need a huge elaborate one. You should just be happy with a dinner of your choice, a cake (a box cake mix made with your choice of frosting, and some gifts from your family that is still at home.

No. It's fine. I don't think the six events you have listed are even all party worthy. The 1 year and I guess 18 is fine. To be honest, I find the other four to be completely stupid. But if you do party over them, more power to you and hope you have fun. You should party over significant accomplishments instead of arbitrary numbers. The two previous answers also hit the mark for me.

No it doesn't some kids don't get any parties at all and still, that doesn't mean they are bad parents

No, not at all. I think that's great. Imagine doing the same thing for 15+ years. Birthday parties wouldn't really feel as special. I remember thinking birthday parties were always more of a duty and preferred small birthday dinners and things myself. Maybe some kind of a birthday trip would be a memorable thing too for a certain milestone.
