Kane & Lynch 2 PC-DVD game?

I saw two editions this game on online shopping site, one is 'standard'(shown left) & other(at right) which required 'steam' to activate the game using internet connection. both are PC DVD. is 'standard' edition at left also need activation by steam using internet? are all PC-DVD of this game required a steam activation?

    All copies of Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days for PC require Steam.

    Both of those copies are the 'standard' edition, the difference being that originally there was a 'limited' edition too, with a pink stripe on the box and some DLC included.
