Why do Americans hate soccer?

They don't , they have bigger stadiums than Europe, which are packed

They don't hate it but they don't love it either like in Europe and/or South America, a lot of Americans like it even if most of the population don't, you also have to remember they have many more sports they like better to choose from such as basketball, swimming, NASCAR racing, track and field/athletics, lacrosse, professional wrestling (WWE for example) and many more, soccer isn't the first choice sport in the USA the same way it is in Europe and/or South America, America is a bowl of sports, meaning there are many sports with high popularity whereas most nations only have maybe 2-3 sports with very high popularity.

The undeniable answer is that we don't grow up with the game the manner in which they do in England, Brazil, and Ghana. It's not socially imbued. Yet, I accept, there are reasons it's not socially instilled, center reasons the game doesn't interest our public character.

The primary detour to our caring soccer is unadulterated American hubris. In the course of recent years, America has overwhelmed the world financially, militarily, and socially. In that time we have become used to being the best. We can't comprehend nations like Brazil and Germany, Italy, and Argentina being superior to us.

Truth be told, we're so dedicated to winning that we've sent out our own local games—baseball, b-ball, and football—to the remainder of the world, permitting us to win, however to receive the monetary benefits of sending out our prevalence.

Tragically, this strategy is causing issues down the road for us as Asian nations are pounding us in baseball, and European nations are making extraordinary steps in ball.

Football is another issue. Do the trick to state it's costly. We don't play soccer for a similar explanation we don't play cricket or field hockey or rugby.

We don't "hate" soccer. We just find it boring., and with all the faked injuries, somewhat laughable.

Why always this generalization? There are also Americans who like it. Furthermore, many Americans are just not interested in football, what the Americans call soccer. It has nothing to do with hate.

Not invented here. Americans hate anything they didn’t invent ( or think they did). 

Because it is all about the soccer moms.

They don’t it’s just fairly new there compared to their own football.

@Citizen Awesome, you want manly try Rugby. Rougher than American football and no body armour. Another British sport. As is what you call football - Gridiron originated in the UK too. You get three substitutes in our football and the ball can travel incredibly fast. Some goals clock in at a hundred mile an hour.

Soccer is in direct contrast with the American culture and spirit. Why?

- Americans like things fast and action packed! 

Soccer is slow. Very slow. Teams are allowed only 2 substitutions per game and they play for 90-ish minutes of run time. This means the players are exhausted and don’t have the energy to put forth much effort later in the game. This slows the pace down more than the field size. The soccer field is HUGE. 110–130 yards long, 50–100 yards wide. Being that soccer balls travel at such relatively slow speeds (60–80mph) . It’s easy to track, but also makes play progress slower.

- Americans see fake injuries as non-masculine

Due to soccer's 2 substitute rule, players will intentionally fake injuries. They might get tapped in the shin, but will flop on the ground like a fish out of water to get a break. This allows the trainers to bring water out, etc. This over-dramatization is corny, takes away from the flow of the game, & is seen as whiney & unmanly

- Americans like things simple

Soccer has complicated rules, that Americans are not accustomed to in trying to enjoy a sport. Yellow card, red card, what’s a penalty, what isn’t. Why only 2 substitutes? And what’s with the random time added at the end? NFL is very simple timing. 4 quarters, 15 minutes each. Clock runs unless the player goes out of bounds, a team scores or a pass is incomplete. Teams have 45 seconds to call a play and snap the ball. Whoever has the most points at the end of 60 minutes wins. If it’s tied, 15 minute overtime with first score wins. NBA, clock is simple. 4 quarters, 12 minutes each. Clock stops after each basket or foul. team with the most points at the end wins. If it’s tied, go to a 5 minute OT. Hockey is simple. 3 20 minute periods. Clock stops for each whistle for penalties, zone infractions, and goals. Whoever is ahead at the end of regulation wins. If it’s tied, 5 minute overtime period (with altered rules), first goal wins. If nobody scores in that 5 minutes, it goes to a 5 person shootout. Even baseball is simple. Each team gets 3 outs per inning, for 9 innings. Whoever has the most runs after 27 outs wins. If it’s tied, you play another inning to get a run difference. Keep playing until someone wins. Soccer though, you play 2 45 minute halves, and at the end, the referees talk and decide to give the teams some arbitrary amount of extra time. So a team down by 1 still gets extra time and can tie it. If it’s tied after that bonus time, it’s a tie, but if it’s tied after the first 90 minutes, a team can win if they score in bonus time.

- Americans like to win! 

Americans like winners, and we have never won anything in regards to soccer. Example Americans flock to the "College WORLD Series" that is played in America against other American teams, yet, we proclaim the winner as the best in the WORLD. Due to soccer being a global sport, Americans cannot proclaim this. Yet, in basketball, baseball, and football, we can. So, we stick with what we can be proud of, which is being #1 at the same sports we've always been #1 in. In America soccer is something parents place their children in as one of the first sports just to gain cardio endurance, gain coordination, and have fun. It's more of a prep for the intended sport of American football, baseball, or basketball the parents want their child to play long term.

- Americans like it BIG

America's top sports sports have big athletes, football, baseball, & basketball. Whereas soccer has a lot of little fellas, not the 6'9" behemoths in American basketball or 300 pounders in American football. 

Basically, Americans find soccer boring because we suck at it, it's slow, the players are average to small, it's a lot of effort across a big field for a small reward(points), we are too lazy to decipher the rules, so we don't understand what's going on, & we are too lazy to try to learn. 

Americans don't. We have all our kids play it until they outgrow it and can begin a real sport. Why else do you think a mom with a bunch of little kids is a called a "soccer mom"?
