They were real......hundreds of years ago.
Men of SCIENCE and knowledge, who actually wanted to pass along intelligent knowledge, when doing so, at that time, could have gotten them burned at the stake, for heresy against the Catholic Church teachings of the time.
So they hid their knowledge in plain sight, in their art, and sculptures.......which if you understood what you were actually looking at.....you'd see the truth .
One of the most famous examples is the Obelisk in St. Peter's square......at a time when the church taught the earth is flat.
Little did the Pope and men of religion understand, is that Obelisk's are used to measure the earth's CIRCUMFERENCE, using the shadows cast by the sun, *proving* the earth is round.
But presented as something else, and a gift......it was proudly erected right outside the Vatican.-----where it stands to this day .
Illuminati --1 Religion --0.
It's ironic that the "Illuminati" have come to be known as shaowdy figures , trying to keep secrets, when in fact, the REAL Illuminati sought to ENLIGHTEN the world, from ancient, archaic, and utlimately, WRONG church teachings........and **SHARE** that forbidden knowledge with the world, to advance mankind.

No.
The illuminati were a group of people a few hundred years ago who promoted reason and early science over blindly following religion.
They are some of the people who brought Europe out of the "dark ages". Aptly enough, "Illuminati" means enlightened.
At the time, saying anything that contradicted the church or religious rules was heresy and punishable by torture or death, so it was a secret organisation!
They and others succeeded and it is no longer a crime to be a scientist or atheist (in the Western world at least), so no secret organisation any more.
The nearest equivalent people in the present day are the ones trying to teach kids in areas of africa etc. ruled by religious extremists and risking their lives to do it.
All the "Illuminati" stuff in the last few years came from the Dan Brown book & movie "Angels and Demons" - the book came out in 2000 and used the illuminati name [and nothing else, no supposed members] as a misdirection in the story.
Ever since then the conspiracy nutters have been claiming "The Illuminati" exist, but as some kind of mystical rulers, nothing like what the illuminati actually were anyway.
Plus some computer games etc. have picked up on that (e.g Deus Ex Human Revolution) and included it in the game story, which just reinforces the nonsense the conspiracy idiots repeat to each other...

Illuminati exist to keep conspiracy theorists awake at night.
