Will Minecraft "console edition" ever come back?
Back before Minecraft was unified into two versions (which we now know as Java and Bedrock) there was a version for every console, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo, etc. Are these versions discontinued forever, or will they make a return somewhere in the future?

As part of the "Better Together" update, all the console versions were merged together into "Minecraft" running on the Bedrock Engine (& the PC version was renamed Minecraft: Java Edition) as the evolution of the console versions. The main reason the Bedrock Engine was created for each of the consoles is to unify them so that updates can be released typically at the same time & that all the consoles can play together with an XBox Live account & your console's online service subscription (excluding those on the Windows 10 version, as they're not on a console).
The Console versions (PS3, XBox 360, Wii U & New 3DS) are officially discontinued & are called the "Legacy Edition" versions as they stopped getting updates after a specified threshold, which was way before the Bedrock Engine was created to unify the consoles. They can still be played & still have online multiplayer support, but they're effective dead as they stand.
