In the NFL, what is the worst team record that made the playoffs?

Also, what is the worst record that theoretically could make the playoffs under the NFL playoffs format?

The two sub-.500 teams to make the playoffs to date are:

    Seattle 2010:  7-9

    Carolina 2014:  7-8-1.

I'm not sure how others here put Carolina as having the worst record.  A loss is clearly worse than a tie.

And, yes, mathematically it is possible to go 0-10-6 and make the playoffs.  If you take ties out of the mix, then 3-13 would be the worst possible record.  It would mean all team in the division split all their games and lost all their non-division games.

7-9 Seattle in 2010 and Washington. Seattle won in the first round of the playoffs as did the three other teams that won a division and didn't have a winning record.

The irony of it is both the 2010 Seahawks and the 2014 Panthers won their first playoff games. Both had the same winning percentage, .437.

It was the Carolina Panthers in 2014 with a record of 7-8-1.
