Should I get a dog stroller or a dog purse?

I'm trying to decide if I should buy a dog stroller or a purse to put my dog in. I have a 4.5 lb. 11 year old Chihuahua so she can't really go very far before she get tired. The purse I'm looking at costs $50 and the stroller costs $80.

What is making me confused is I like to walk sometimes up to 5 miles. So if I get a purse, that will put strain on my back and I already have back problems so I'm not sure if it is the best to carry her for a long distance. For the stroller, if I walk in the park I can keep it in my car until I need it. But if I decide to walk a long distance, I would have to have someone push the stroller while I walk my dog.

So which do you think I should get? The purse or stroller? I'm not planning on keeping my Chihuahua in there the whole walk, just when she gets tired. I usually hold her for some time to let her rest and then I see if she wants to walk more after she's rested 15-20 minutes.

Update:

My dog is very chill. As long as her head is able to pop out so she can see me, she'll do anything as long as I'm with her. I found a purse that will let her head stick out and the stroller will also let you take the top off and has a leash to secure her in it.

Update 2:

My 4.5 lb. Chihuahua can usually walk almost 3 miles without stopping. You do realize that she takes smaller steps, right? So that distance is even further for her. I think walking 2.5-3 miles for a 4.5 lb dog is pretty darn good!

Update 3:

I said I walk up to 5 miles. She can't walk that far given how small her legs are. Small dogs aren't going to be able to walk the same distance as a big dog. My chihuahua has to take 5 steps to match my 1.

I would get the stroller, or just get an umbrella stroller.

A dog purse.  Dog strollers look ridiculous to me.

You don't need to blow $50 on a "dog purse" when all you need is a good tote bag that costs no more than $20 to carry  her in. I understand having an elderly dog who can't walk as I recently had to send mine to Rainbow Bridge and I used a dog stroller that my mom had for one of her dogs who also had to be sent there. To spend that much money on an overpriced purse is just foolish.

I would get the purse. Leave her at home when you go for a long walk like that. You can take her on short trips like to the store, pet shop, and other short trips with the purse. I had a Chihuahua and at sixteen she liked to be in the purse the most or holding her was best at times.

I like this idea better than a purse or stroller.

The purse makes more sense, they do have backpack style carriers like they have for children that shouldn’t throw you off balance like just a purse does.

The strollers a fun idea but it is bulky and can’t be stashed or put aside easily if something were to come up while your out and about, say running into a group of friends and jumping in their car going out for a bite (yes there’s COVID but it shouldn’t last forever)

As for the porch, 11 isn’t old for a mini pup (chihuahua). Our guys lasted a long long time,  Judy was 17 when she started slowing down and couldn’t do the 4 miles around the lake, so we FrancIs.  Judy lived to 22 years, Frannie lived til he was 25.

Since you stated the dog only needs to rest for about 20 minutes the purse seems the smarter choice, this way if you stop at a store et it’s easier to get about without the stroller.  Your back should be fine for toting around ten pounds extra weight unless you already have back problems.

    Just my thoughts.

Older dogs need shorter walks and more of them. Younger dogs need long walks and fewer of them.

I'd agree with seeing your vet before you do anything like a purse or stroller.   If this is an arthritic condition, it can be helped with medication and it's actually important for arthritic patients to keep walking, within what they can and can't do.  So I'd keep her walking, depending on what her problem is, and doing more on the days she's ok, and less when she's not.  YOU may need to cut back a bit on how far you go, with her.

And if it's a heart condition, there would probably be help for that too rather than resort to either a purse or stroller!

I would think the purse would be easier to manage than the stroller (weight and bulk-wise).  Have you found out from your vet -why your dog gets tired so easily?  11 yrs. is NOT OLD for Chi - who can easily live to be 18. However, congestive heart failure or painful joints could be an important factor in determining which conveyance might be better for physical comfort or air circulation - depending on the underlying issue(s).

REPLY to your note= YOU SAID... "my dog cannot walk very far with out getting tired".  HOW IS ANYONE supposed to read that, and not think something is wrong with the dog versus you "NOW CLAIMING" the dog can walk for several MILES!!!!!
