Is playing guitar fun?

I want to get an acoustic guitar(Yamaha f280(made now in India)) and learn to play by my own watching videos on YouTube...do you think it could be fun? I'm 30 btw...and is it a waste of money or can it be of any use in the future?

You won't learn to play by watching You Tube videos!

Watching videos can be fun and playing the guitar can be fun but they are different things.

Playing guitar is fun and I found learning to play to be fun too. That was almost fifty years ago and it's the best thing I ever did.

I'd say that lots of people waste money on a guitar because they expect to be able to play, almost “by magic”. They think someone can just show them what to do and that's it. When they realise that they need to work really hard and spend lots and lots of time to be able to do the simplest of things they loose interest.

On the other hand, does it matter? I've wasted money on lots of things and been mistaken about lots of things. I'd say, if you really would like a guitar and you can afford it, then get one.

    Good luck.

What put me off was that really it is an accompaniment instrument - the piano/keyboard is more rewarding. That said, it might suit you and you can always re-sell it if you find you don't get on with it. Perfect lockdown project.
