Is the name/word Stein, as in beer stein, Jewish or German?

    It MEANS stone as the mugs are "pottery".  Just like in the US we have a GLASS of beer.

    German.Yiddish is a German dialect so most of the words are the same.

    It’s Old High German, the Low German equivalent is Steen.

    Literally translatesd as "stone" I think.

    German.  Yiddish is a German dialect so most of the words are the same.  Yiddish is Yiddish for Jewish.  The language spoken in the State of Israel is a modernised version of classical Hebrew.

    German originally, adopted by Jews like how blacks have white last names. Jews migrated to Germany and intermixed, then became German Jews.
